A look back at the year that has passed 2020

2020 is coming to an end. A special year for ØNSK, which has offered both good and evil.

Covid-19 🦠

As for most others, the new times during covid-19 have also left their mark on ØNSK. In the spring, we saw a decline in coffee sales to offices, as companies sent employees home. Conversely, the subsequent many newly established home offices resulted in a significant increase in coffee sales to private coffee customers at www.onsk.dk.

“Nothing is so bad, it isn’t good for anything”, is the saying. And while we look forward to the world returning to normal, we also welcome the fact that new initiatives such as online coffee tasting became a thing where we could gather friends and colleagues for good coffee.

Rasmus instructs in online coffee tasting back in the spring. Here we had the coffee farmer Francisco on a live connection from Nicaragua.

Nicaragua and new coffees ☕

Before covid-19 spread to Denmark, we had a few weeks in Nicaragua with visits to both “old” and new coffee farmers. Among other things, we became acquainted with a new organic cooperative – Café de Alturas – which will hopefully be a permanent partner for many years to come.

Also Silvio Sanchez, who we have gradually visited 3 times, has become a regular part of the webshop with its fruity “natural” coffee.

In addition, we have become proud sponsors of the local football team “The Mechanical Oranges” in San Juan del Río Coco – the city where the Corcasan cooperative is located.

New faces 🦸

Among the highlights of the year are the many new faces that have landed in our office and warehouse in Nørrebro. In March, we welcomed Mathias, who has been given the responsibility of roasting and sending out the coffee, as well as keeping track of the finances.

During the year, there have been even more appointments, where Jonas, who has previously been a freelance photographer and worked part-time at ØNSK, accepted a permanent position in the role of creative director with responsibility for marketing. Also welcome to Cecilia, Viggo and Kristine – our three sweet and fresh young workers. For the past 2 months we have also had the pleasure of Jacob, who is a trained journalist, and helps us become even sharper in our communication.

The new help is needed after we rounded up 3,000 kilos of roasted and packaged coffee in October for the first time in a month.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🎉

In conclusion, we would like to thank you who believe in our journey towards creating a more sustainable development in the coffee industry. With your help, we have improved the conditions for our coffee farmers in Nicaragua, all the while improving the quality of the coffee. We hope you can taste that.

We look forward to an exciting year 2021 at ØNSK, where we have major projects in the pipeline. We can’t quite reveal them yet, but you can look forward to it.

In the end, all that remains is to WISH you a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and see you again in 2021. Best regards from the whole WISH team.

Andreas, Rasmus, Mathias, Jonas, Cecilia, Viggo, Kristine & Jacob
