What is Paca?
Paca is a natural mutation of Bourbon, similar to Caturra in Brazil and Villa Sarchi in Costa Rica. Like other widely cultivated Bourbon mutants, Pacas has a single-gene mutation that causes the plant to grow smaller, a process known as dwarfing. The small size of the Paca plant allows plants to be placed closer together to increase overall fruit production. It was the Paca family who discovered the variety in 1949 on their farm in El-Salvador.
